Reminders

Outdoor PE is on a Thursday and indoor PE is on a Tuesday.

Year 5 are expected to read at least 5 times a week. Reading records are checked by a member of staff in Whitebeam Class every Friday to tally points. Reading at least 5 times a week means that you will get a raffle ticket towards the class jar for a chance to win a book from the vending machine!

Please remember to bring a water bottle and a healthy snack for break time with you to school every day.

3. I can write a poem using the theme 'What is a world of wonder...It's anything you want it to be.' You can enter the competition to have your poem published in a real book. Entries will need to be given to Mrs Gardner by Monday 19^th October.

Topic Themes:
1. Can I research Anglo-Saxon poetry and explain what I have discovered? Research one Anglo-Saxon poem. You may choose Beowulf, The Wanderer, The Seafarer, The Dream of the Rood or The Battle of Maldon. Find out: What is the poem called? When was it written? What is the poem about? Who are the main people or characters? What important events happen? What does the poem tell us about Anglo-Saxon life, beliefs or values? Find three interesting facts about the poem. Find a short example from a modern English translation that you found interesting. Present your research neatly on one A4 page. You may include pictures, drawings or decorative Anglo-Saxon designs.
2. Research five different Anglo-Saxon artefacts. Find out what each artefact is, where it was discovered, when it was found, how old it is, and what it tells us about Anglo-Saxon life. Include one interesting fact about each artefact and try to find some of the most unusual, important or oldest Anglo-Saxon artefacts discovered.
3. For this theme, investigate how the Anglo-Saxons have influenced life in Britain today. Find out what they left behind, including place names, language, laws, traditions and ways of life, and explain what evidence still shows their impact on modern Britain.

Our science journey

We have a display showcasing our learning journey in Science. This term, we are exploring the properties of materials. We have begun our practical investigations by testing different materials to find out which are effective thermal insulators and conductors.
