Welcome to your class page Maple Class!

Our topic for this term is Toy Story!

In this topic we will be looking at toys through the ages, including changes within living memory. We will focus on the history of Teddy Bears and the Rubik’s Cube, learning about Margarete Steiff and Erno Rubik!

Please find the Autumn term letter to parents here

Notices:

Maple class have made a fabulous start to their time in Year one! It is a huge transition, which they are really adapting to well. Well done Maple.

It was lovely to meet lots of you and Parents Evening this week!

Please remember to practise the letter formation activity we gave you. Your child will need you sitting near them to make sure they are starting all the letters from the line and forming them correctly. If you did you receive a formation sheet and pen, please ask us about it and we will make sure you get one.

PE days are Wednesday & Friday

Author of the term

Our author of the term is Ruth Galloway! We enjoy reading her books together as a class. Have you ever read any of her books before?

In Maple class, we love reading! Please try and read with your child every day. Even reading with them every night can make such a difference!

Take a look at our fabulous reading corner! We have lots of different books to choose from.

KS1 Homework

Please look in your child's Reading Diary, as we have stuck in their lines for their first class assembly in Year 1, which will take place soon after half-term. Over the half-term holiday, it would be great if you could practise these lines with your child and help them to learn them, so that they are ready to begin to rehearse together as a whole class when we are back at school.  Thank you for your support!! :)

Maths: (page 17 CGP books)

This week our maths focus Addition. Please complete page 17 (Adding) and mark it using the answers in the book. You may also like to complete the 'Reception Objectives Test' with your child (p 2 and 3)

Phonics

The children love phonics lessons and really benefit from extra help at home. Please help your child to work on their sound and word cards at home. We will be working towards the Phonics Screening check in June. Attached below is an example of the sort of words your child will be expected to read.

Here you can have a look at some examples and phonics screening guidance :)

Here is an online game you can play to support your child (there are other phonics games you can play on this website also)
