Oak - Year 2

Welcome to Oak Class – Year 2

Hello everybody!

What a great start to the term. I am really looking forward to another great year together.

Mrs Ijad

Look at our fantastic reading corner this year! Please try and read with your child each evening.

Our topic this term is Towers and Turrets. We have already had a great time looking at castles and how Kings and Queens used to live.

Our Author this term is Lauren Child. Have you read any of her books at home?

Lauren Child is the author of the brilliant Charlie and Lola books, Have you read any of them?

KS1 Homework –ClassDojo

You will still find a homework menu with themes under different subheadings: whole school themes, subject themes and topic themes. You need to choose one theme from each subheading.

Children are to complete one themed piece of homework once a fortnight. This will all be uploaded on ClassDojo.

Your child can choose how they want to present their homework it can be a piece of art, writing, a presentation - it's entirely up to them.  Alongside this teachers will upload a weekly homework sheet. KS1 children are also expected to read daily, practise their sounds/ words/ spelling cards and practise their maths packs.

For every piece of homework the children will receive a ClassDojo point.  They can get up to 3 points per week.  When each child gets 12 points they will receive a homework certificate.

We are very busy recapping and filling in the gaps. The children love phonics lessons and really benefit from extra help at home. Please help your child to work on their sound and word cards at home. We will be working towards the Phonics Screening check in the second autumn term. Attached below is an example of the sort of words your child will be expected to read.

We have big dreams for this year!

we are all going to be SOARING THROUGH YEAR 2 TOGETHER!

Have you tried Times Table Rock stars?

It is great fun and an excellent way to practice times tables. You have your log in details in your reading diary! J
