Welcome to Pine Class!
It is so lovely to be back! We have had a great start to the term and are looking forward to a brilliant year together. Please enjoy the information below and we look forward to working with you and your children!
Mrs Mertens, Mrs Walby and Mrs Proctor.
Author of the Term
This term our focus author will be Ruth Galloway. We love reading and sharing her stories. Have you read any of her books? Do you have a favourite book?
In our book corner we have lots of Ruth Galloway books for the children to enjoy. Please try and read or share a book with your child each night, it makes such a difference!
This term our topic is 'Toy Story'. We will be learning about the history of teddy bears and the Rubrix cube amongst other toys. We will be looking at new and old toys and talking about the past.
To ensure a smooth transition from Foundation to Year 1, we will continue with Rocket Activities until half-term. The children will have lots of fun with creative and physical activities.
Have a go at Times Table Rockstars!
You will still find a homework menu with themes under different subheadings: whole school themes, subject themes and topic themes. You need to choose one theme from each subheading.
Children are to complete one themed piece of homework once a fortnight. This will all be uploaded on ClassDojo.
Your child can choose how they want to present their homework it can be a piece of art, writing, a presentation - it's entirely up to them. Alongside this teachers will upload a weekly homework sheet. KS1 children are also expected to read daily, practise their sounds/ words/ spelling cards and practise their maths packs.
For every piece of homework the children will receive a ClassDojo point. They can get up to 3 points per week. When each child gets 12 points they will receive a homework certificate.
We are very busy recapping and filling in the gaps. The children love phonics lessons and really benefit from extra help at home. Please help your child to work on their sound and word cards at home. We will be working towards the Phonics Screening check in June. Attached below is an example of the sort of words your child will be expected to read.
