Hello Pine Class,

Well done for completing a week of home learning, we know it can be tricky but well done for trying hard.

We have a joke for you at the end of the week and we hope it makes you laugh.

Q - Why do golfers wear two pairs of trousers?

A - In case they get a hole in one!

You might know some better ones that you can share with us next week when we are on our new learning platform.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.  It looks like it will be dry even though it will be cold so hopefully you can wrap up warm and get some fresh air.

Lots of love

Mrs Mertens, Mrs Walby and Mrs Proctor xx

Today we would like you to look at the PowerPoints to remind yourself of all the 2D and 3D shapes we have learnt and then see if you can find any of those shapes around your home.  I wonder what shapes you will find.  There is a sheet you can record it on but it is also fine to draw them on a piece of paper, maybe fold the paper into quarters first so you have a clear space for each shape you find.

Friday 8th January - English

Today we would like you to design a poster, look at the document to find out what your poster needs to be about.  There is also the link if you want to watch the clip again.

Hello Pine class,

Wasn't it nice to have a bit of sunshine yesterday afternoon, I wonder if any of you managed to get outside for a bit of fresh air, we did and felt much better afterwards.  We hope you have been enjoying the work so far, keep trying your best just like you do in school.

Have a good day

Lots of love

Thursday 7th January - phonics, use this PowerPoint to practise your phonics, you should hear me explaining what to do on the slides.

Thursday 7th January, Topic - Picture News 1
For picture news we always look at a question and discuss it. It is related to current news in the world.  We do this as a whole class and/or in small groups. We then record our answers in different creative ways. What an interesting question this week………..

Should anyone be allowed to buy a pet?  What types of animals do people keep as pets?
What do you think? Pick something from the uploaded resources to explore at home, don't worry if you can't print the sheet just record your answers on a piece of paper.

Welcome to Pine Class!

Hello everybody!

It is so lovely to be back! We have had a great start to the term and are looking forward to a brilliant year together. Please enjoy the information below and we look forward to working with you and your children!

Mrs Mertens, Mrs Walby and Mrs Proctor.

Author of the Term

This term our focus author will be Ruth Galloway. We love reading and sharing her stories. Have you read any of her books? Do you have a favourite book?

In our book corner we have lots of Ruth Galloway books for the children to enjoy. Please try and read or share a book with your child each night, it makes such a difference!

Author of the Term

Our Topic

This term our topic is 'Toy Story'. We will be learning about the history of teddy bears and the Rubrix cube amongst other toys. We will be looking at new and old toys and talking about the past.

Toy Story!

Rocket activities

To ensure a smooth transition from Foundation to Year 1, we will continue with Rocket Activities until half-term. The children will have lots of fun with creative and physical activities.

Have a go at Times Table Rockstars!

Homework on ClassDojo!

You will still find a homework menu with themes under different subheadings: whole school themes, subject themes and topic themes. You need to choose one theme from each subheading.

Children are to complete one themed piece of homework once a fortnight. This will all be uploaded on ClassDojo.

Your child can choose how they want to present their homework it can be a piece of art, writing, a presentation - it's entirely up to them.  Alongside this teachers will upload a weekly homework sheet. KS1 children are also expected to read daily, practise their sounds/ words/ spelling cards and practise their maths packs.

For every piece of homework the children will receive a ClassDojo point.  They can get up to 3 points per week.  When each child gets 12 points they will receive a homework certificate.

We are very busy recapping and filling in the gaps. The children love phonics lessons and really benefit from extra help at home. Please help your child to work on their sound and word cards at home. We will be working towards the Phonics Screening  check in June. Attached below is an example of the sort of words your child will be expected to read.
